More than 100 people gathered on Saturday 10th September to remember Olivia Alkir.
A service of dedication was held at the church of St Michael and All Angels in Efenechtyd for the unveiling of Olivia’s Window. The stained glass window, a memorial to Olivia, replaced one of the existing Victorian, plain glass windows in the church. The new window was based on one of Olivia’s school artworks depicting a scene from Efenechtyd of the lane around the church. The money to pay for the window was raised by crowdfunding and by sponsored events. The local community and local businesses donated generously.
At the service of dedication, Jo and Mesut unveiled Olivia’s Window to the congregation that filled the church.
Jo said “Olivia is probably one of very few people in the world to have their own artwork in their own memorial, which makes her window even more special in its own right.
“We are delighted with the window and look forward to everyone coming to see it.
“I’m very proud of our community.”
People can now come to the church and see Olivia’s Window which overlooks her grave, constantly adorned with beautiful flowers. People will come not only to admire the craftsmanship of the window, but also to remember this beautiful, intelligent girl who died so young and so needlessly. She will be loved and remembered. Always.
